Start planning early before your house
move
When you know you’re moving house, plan to start your
packing early – it normally takes much longer than you anticipate. Think about
the type of items you’ll be moving, which items will need careful packing and
how you will organise the boxes.
Moving Valuable items
Make sure particularly valuable and breakable items
are sufficiently covered under your home insurance policy. Your treasured
belongings are far more likely to be damaged when moving.
Make a moving house packing list
Make a moving house packing list and keep items for
each room in the new house together. Calculate how many boxes you will need and
get these well in advance. Find boxes in a variety of sizes.
Boxes & tape for moving house
Make sure you have the right boxes for moving house.
Always use strong packing boxes, particularly for heavier items; otherwise your
belongings may end up by on the pavement. Stronger boxes are normally made from
corrugated cardboard. If you’re using a removal firm they should provide the
boxes as part of their service.
Remember that most cardboard boxes are bought or
delivered flat packed so make sure you allow time to make them up properly.
When making your box, use plenty of parcel tape. This will ensure the box is
strong and that there is no risk of the bottom falling out when you pick it up
full of crockery!
Think about what else will be useful for example bubble
wrap, and self-seal bags for keeping nuts and bolts together. Save old
newspapers for lining boxes.
