It’s finally autumn. And while autumn might not be the most famous season for cleaning, there are still a lot of things that need to get done. Sometime in between your apple picking, your leaf-pile jumping, and your pie baking, read this list and start thinking about the coming months.
Pack up Summer Items
It’s that time of year again, when all of our favourite summer items have to go back into storage. From little things like bathing suits and other summer clothes, to bigger items like kayaks and bicycles, you’ll need to pack everything seasonal up and move it out in order to make room for your colder-weather things, like sweaters and coats, and for all of the other seasonal items you’ll be getting out soon.

Prepare for Decorations and Holidays
The start of fall also signals the beginning of the holiday season. There are many important holidays coming up that you’ll probably want to decorate for. Take this time to go to your storage unit and arrange your items, to lessen the stress of holiday decoration later. You’ll want to have your bins and boxes in the order you’ll need them, to save time and energy in the coming season.

Get out More Seating
Holiday season means that you’ll probably have a lot more house guests. Family may come to visit this time of year, and you might be throwing some dinner parties that are much larger than your typical weeknight meal. You’ll need to prepare by getting out the big tables and extra chairs so that everyone fits comfortably. And you’ll probably also have to pack up some other things (like smaller tables or plants) so that you have enough room for all of your new seating.
Set up for Football & Rugby Season
Sports season also starts this autumn, so if you’re a fan, you might be throwing some impromptu parties with a lot of rowdy guests. From extra seating, to decorations and food, there are a few steps to take to ensure that you throw the ultimate viewing party.
Store Your Lawnmower
Lawn care can’t be ignored now that it’s getting colder. You’ll want to dig up all of your summer plants, and replace them with fall ones. But you also should start thinking about storing your lawnmower safely for the winter months. Make sure that you run the motor until it is out of fuel (or remove the spark plug and drain it), and clean out the air filter before storing it. And don’t forget to clean any pieces of leaves you may have picked up out from the undercarriage.
