Whether your kids spent hours gathering up their loot or you weren’t able to unload your arsenal to trick-or-treaters, chances are you have more candy than you know what to do with post-Halloween Day. You can only eat so much sweets at once, so what should you do with the rest? Here are some tips to help store your treats and keep them fresh.
Store in an Airtight Container Store all of your Halloween treats in a sealed, airtight container (like this festive Tupperware canister). Make sure to keep all the candy in its original wrappers. Place the container in a cool, dry place.
Don’t Mix and Match
If you can, avoid mixing sweets. Hard candies like mints, caramels, and sweets absorb moisture. Chocolates and other chewy candies tend to lose moisture. If you store them all in the same place, then the hard candies will become sticky. Keep them separate to lengthen the shelf life of your candy.
Freeze It
Most types of candy freeze well. Place your favorites in heavy-duty bags and stick them in the freezer to preserve them for up to six months . However, avoid freezing gummies or jelly beans. Freezing these types of candy can cause them to lose their taste and gives them an unappetizing grainy texture. Instead, keep them at room temperature.
